‘At the Hour of Our Death’: Photographer Sarah Sudhoff Captures the Side of Death We Do Not Get to See

Filmmakers Mark and Angela Walley follow photographer Sarah Sudhoff as she works on her series titled ‘At the Hour of Our Death’. In the series Sudhoff creates large-scale color photographs of stained fabrics from trauma scenes and discusses the invisibility of death in our culture.

Death is an ugly thing. We try not to think about it; our own mortality or anyone else’s for that matter. But when death comes knocking, (and it always does), all we know is that it took someone we cared about and loved. Most of us are not a witness. We just wallow in the aftermath and mourn. Rarely do we celebrate the lives they lead. Photographer Sarah Sudhoff believes death should be celebrated and photographed.
