Mesmerizing video ‘Traces of the Molten State’  by Etsuko Ichikawa which shows glowing molten glass drawings on paper. The paper is extremely thick, similar to a slice of plywood, hence the paper does not disintegrate. Must be seen to be believed.

Etsuko Ichikawa was born and raised in Tokyo and received a BFA in painting from Tokyo Zokei University in 1987. In 1991 she began to study glass blowing on the small island Noto, in the Sea of Japan. Ichikawa was so attracted to glass as a medium, in 1993 she moved to Seattle to pursue it and worked for Dale Chihuly as a studio assistant.

She currently maintains a studio in Seattle , where she lives with her husband, Michael, who is also an artist.

Visit Etsuko Ichikawa’s website to see more of her drawings and site specific installations.
