Art News: David & Victoria Beckham Amass Art Collection, Cutters Group Show Berlin and Viktor & Rolf Doll Retrospective

DAVID AND VICTORIA BECKHAM HAVE AMASSED AN ART COLLECTION WORTH £30 MILLION

David Beckham and his wife, ex-Spice Girl Victoria, have put together a contemporary art collection worth over £30m, according to the UK newspaper The Mirror. The collection, bought over eight years, is apparently “love themed” with paintings, portraits and sculptures by Damien Hirst, Sam Taylor Wood, Tracey Emin, Banksy, and Jake and Dinos Chapman. The Beckhams collection – much of it purchased from The White Cube gallery in London, have the possiblity of being put on public display.

CUTTERS 2010 GROUP SHOW IN BERLIN

The Cutters 2010 Group Show is currently running at Pool Gallery through July 15, 2010, the show reaffirms the new recognition of collage that has come about of late, featuring new and recent collage works by thirteen international artists.

The exhibition features: Cless‘ frenzied scenes, Liam Crockard‘s layered accidents, Valero Doval‘s delicate vintage, Erik Foss‘s dirty girls, April Gertler‘s quiet relations, Jason Glasser’s visual soul, Sophie Kern‘s magical worlds, Matt Lipps’ provocative silhouettes, Max-O-Matic’s controlled chaos, Justin Mortimer‘s displaced limbs, Brion Nuda Rosch‘s iconic shapes, Mario Wagner‘s graphic stories, and pool gallery artist and CUTTERS curator James Gallagher‘s private moments, composed of his signature palette that includes vintage sex manuals, Sears catalogues and antique flea-market finds.

VIKTOR & ROLF DOLL RETROSPECTIVE

Dutch design duo Viktor & Rolf’s retrospective spans 17 years of innovative and boundary-pushing fashion at Antwerp’s Studio Job Gallery which runs through July 16, 2010.

The exhibit, comprised of more than 30 dolls—one doll to represent each collection they’ve done to date since their idiosyncratic brand’s formation in 1993

The Lilliputian examples include some of the designers’ most recognizable pieces to date, from a sensational all-white gown from the duo’s first haute couture collection (Spring/Summer 1998) to a full-body “Russian doll” cape from the Fall 199 collection and many more.
