On this day in 1862, the Mexican army defeated the French at the Battle of Puebla. To commemorate, we all enjoy this day, the 5th of May, with large amounts of tequila. Cheers to a happy one.

From the architecture firm, J. Mayer. H. Architects, comes the project ‘Sonnenhof’ consisting of four new offices and apartment buildings, extending over multiple allotments in the Jena, Germany’s historical centre.

Maud Durland is an award-winning Portland, Oregon watercolorist who captures her motifs in a figurative and contemporary style. She is known for her calming renderings of landscapes and she also paints a variety of other subjects. Light and shadow are essential components in her paintings.

ICELAND ART FESTIVAL STAGED BY POLISH GALLERIES This summer Poland’s commercial galleries Raster and Foksal Foundation will stage a one-off arts festival in Iceland. “Villa Reykjavík” will take place in the capital from July 9 through 31, 2010, bringing together 13 galleries from across Europe.
